  • 1,000 : mille - can be shown as 1 000 or 1.000
  • 2,000 : deux mille - can be shown as 2 000 or 2.000
  • 2,500 : deux mille cinq cent - can be shown as 2 500 or 2.500
  • 10,498 : dix mille quatre cent quatre-vingt-dix-huit - can be shown as 10 498 or 10.498
  • 1,000,000 : un million - can be shown as 1 000 000 or 1.000.000

Tips

  • 1,000+ are also similar to English, but there are a few things to note
  • The separator is a period or space, rather than a comma
  • Mille does not finish with the letter S
  • When pronouncing a long number, one generally pauses after mille before pronouncing the rest of the figures. The word euro finishes with the letter S when used as a plural, but must be written in lower case.
  • Cent: centimes or cents
