It's the secure(3) way to save! The "Livret A" is a tax free instant access savings account available to all, regardless of age, nationality or tax residency. Each member of your family can have a "Livret A" in their sole name, including children. It is the ideal risk free place to keep funds 100% accessible for use in the event of unexpected expenditure or to save towards a special occasion.
The "Livret A" is regulated by the French government and the variable interest rate is set by them. Each individual can only have one "Livret A" in France (or a Livret Bleu with Crédit Mutuel). Capital is 100% protected and accessible at all times, with a minimum withdrawal amount of 10€. Interest is paid on 31st December annually but is calculated on the 1st and 16th of each month so you can time your deposits and withdrawals to maximise the interest you earn.
Interest paid is tax free for French residents. It is the responsibility of non-residents to declare any interest earned to their local tax authorities.
Once the ceiling of 22 950 € has been reached, you cannot make additional payments, but interest may be added without limit.
